Tired of fighting with solo cups and taped-up boxes? These started as one question: alligator clips hold small parts, so why not make a big holder for big parts?

Sticks that fit

Sized around the paint sticks you can pick up at any hardware store. These three are the ones we've measured and tested.

Slots are slightly tapered to take small variations in thickness and width. Standard alligator clips fit the round holes for small parts and miniatures.

How to print them

These settings balance rigidity and speed, and hold up to the heat and solvents a painting bench throws at them.

Want the bases heavier? Raise the infill, or pause the print partway and fill the model with sand.

Tipping hazard

A paint stick puts the part well above its centre of gravity, so a knock can tip it — and holders stood close together can go over like dominoes. Leave space between them and keep the bench clear.
