Paint work holders in use on a workbench

Tired of fighting with solo cups and taped-up boxes? These started as one question: alligator clips hold small parts. So why not make a big holder for big parts?

Hinge modules

Angle the work instead of angling yourself. Ten modules add indexed positioning to any holder in the set. They are already in the download.

Sticks that fit

These are sized around paint sticks. You can pick them up at any hardware store. We measured and tested these three.

Slots taper just a little. That leaves room for small size differences. These are standard alligator clips. They fit the round holes. They hold small parts and minis.

How to print them

These settings balance rigidity and speed. They also hold up to the heat and solvents on a painting bench.

Want the bases heavier? Raise the infill, or pause the print partway and fill the model with sand.

Tipping hazard

A paint stick holds the part high above its base. That makes it top-heavy, so a knock can tip it over. Holders standing close together can fall like dominoes. Leave space between them, and keep the bench clear.
